About METSA

The Miniature Equine Therapy Standards Association (METSA) is a professional standards organization dedicated to advancing the safe, ethical, and professional practice of Miniature Equine Assisted Services (MEAS).

METSA was founded by experienced miniature equine practitioners who recognized the need for consistent, species-specific standards that promote safety, professionalism, equine welfare, and public confidence. Through education, team qualification, collaboration, and the development of best practices, METSA supports handlers, evaluators, facilities, and the professionals who incorporate miniature equine teams into educational, healthcare, therapeutic, and community settings.

Every member of the METSA Board of Directors has direct experience operating or supporting miniature equine-assisted programs. Collectively, the Board brings decades of practical experience in Miniature Equine Assisted Services. In addition, every Board member has completed professional training through organizations such as PATH Intl. or EAGALA, with most maintaining current credentials. This collective experience provides the knowledge and practical perspective necessary to develop standards that are ethical, practical, and grounded in established industry practices.

METSA believes that strong standards strengthen the entire profession. By promoting consistency, ethical practices, and continual learning, METSA works to ensure that qualified miniature equine teams are prepared to serve safely, professionally, and responsibly while building public confidence in Miniature Equine Assisted Services.

METSA was not created to replace existing organizations. Rather, it complements them by providing species-specific standards, education, and team qualification focused on Miniature Equine Assisted Services. METSA welcomes collaboration with organizations and professionals who share a commitment to advancing the safety, professionalism, and ethical practice of Miniature Equine Assisted Services.
