Qualification Evaluation
Every team seeking METSA qualification must successfully complete a comprehensive, hands-on evaluation developed specifically for Miniature Equine Assisted Services (MEAS). The evaluation measures the ability of the handler and miniature equine to work safely, ethically, and professionally as a team while demonstrating the knowledge, judgment, and skills necessary to participate in a variety of service settings.

METSA offers three qualification levels that reflect a team's demonstrated abilities and readiness:

Intermediate – Level I

Advanced – Level II

Master – Level III
During the evaluation, both the Handler and Miniature Equine are assessed as a team. Teams are evaluated on safe handling practices, professionalism, equine welfare, communication, adaptability, and their ability to respond appropriately in environments with varying levels of activity, distractions, and participant needs.

Qualification is intended to promote both safety and continuous professional development. Teams are encouraged to pursue ongoing education and expand their knowledge through professional organizations and continuing education opportunities, including programs offered by organizations such as PATH Intl. and EAGALA.

METSA evaluates the Handler and Miniature Equine as a partnership, recognizing that successful Miniature Equine Assisted Services depend on the relationship, communication, trust, and sound judgment demonstrated by both members of the team.
